Deep Fishing Fish Index: How to Track Missing Fish by Water

How the Deep Fishing fish Index groups entries by water, how to identify the fish you have not logged yet, and what completing a water's collection requires.

Quick answer

The Deep Fishing Index is organized by water. Open the Index menu for the water you are currently fishing and it shows which fish you have not logged yet in that water — check it before a long grind and again after a run, which is the fastest way to know whether the session actually completed new entries.

  • Select the water you are fishing (Fernshore is the documented example) before starting a grind.
  • Read which entries are still unlogged in that water.
  • Make those unlogged fish the target of your next casts, then recheck the Index after the run.

That water-grouped structure and the unlogged-fish display come from community documentation published September 19, 2026 — not from official first-party notes — and the game was updated within days of that guide's publication. Entry-level detail such as locked-versus-completed entry states and per-water fish totals is not documented anywhere, so treat the in-game menu as the authority and recheck it after collection updates.

How to catch the fish a missing entry needs

An Index entry logs a fish once you catch it, so filling a missing entry runs straight through the core catch mechanic. Casting is hold-and-release, not a tap: hold the input, watch the timing meter, and let go at the right moment so the lure actually reaches water. While the line is coming back in, you steer it through the fish in the water, and one cast can pick up several fish.

When you are hunting one specific entry, the skill is filtering rather than grabbing everything. Dodge the fish you do not need and steer the line into the one you are missing — inventory space is finite, and a haul of junk sells for a fraction of a haul of good catches.

Reaching the waters that add Index sections

New Index sections come with new water, and new water is gated behind casting distance and level. Strength is the upgrade line that governs how far the lure travels, so it is the line that unlocks new water and, by extension, new fish to log.

Rods come before stat upgrades in that decision: a stat upgrade makes a weak rod slightly less weak, but a new rod changes which water you can reach at all, and farther water holds the rarer fish. The documented rod progression is the Bronze Rod at $12,000 and the Full Bronze Rod at $50,000.

The Pond is the documented level-gated destination: it unlocks at Level 5 and costs $25,000. Because rarity scales with distance and location rather than with luck purchases, pushing into a new water is what puts that water's fish on your Index to log in the first place.

What the Index does not track

Three collection tracks sit separately from the water-grouped fish Index, and conflating them with Index progress is easy to do:

  • Rarity badges. Legendary, Mythical, and Secret are rarity tiers with their own badges — the game's Roblox badge listing shows First Legendary, First Mythical, and First Secret badges on this separate track.
  • Catch-count trophies. These tick over at 50, 250, 1,000, 10K, 50K, 100K, 250K, and 500K fish, with matching catch badges running from 50 catches up to 500K.
  • Mutations. A separate collection layered on top: a mutation acts as a value modifier on a catch rather than being a rarity of its own, and a First Mutation badge exists on the badge track.

Completing Index entries is its own tracking job. Treat it separately from rarity hunting, catch milestones, and mutation collecting.

What completion grants, and what to recheck

There is no documented reward for completing Index entries or a water's collection — no coins, items, or badges are tied to Index progress. Grind for the entries because you want them logged, not for a promised payout, and ignore any code-based rewards (cash, bait, potions) circulating in the community: those come from the Shop's redemption system and are unrelated to the Index.

Index categories, waters, and fish entries can change with game updates, so recheck the Index menu's grouping, your water's entries, and any completion rewards after each collection update.
