Deep Fishing Locations Guide: Water Progression and Unlock Costs

Deep Fishing water progression explained: the Strength-to-cast-distance gate, The Pond (Level 5 + $25,000), deep ocean water via Tide Bait, Dune Haven ($2.5M), and cast-distance checkpoints by setup.

Quick answer

Deep Fishing gates its waters by casting distance rather than a level menu. Sell what you catch, spend the coins on Strength, and your casts land farther out — farther water is the rarity gate, and Strength is the only upgrade that moves it. Luck upgrades do not substitute for reach: luck applied to a short cast still samples the same shallow water.

  • Fernshore — the water you are already fishing; no unlock gate reported.
  • The Pond — Level 5 plus $25,000.
  • Deep ocean water — casts of roughly 1,014+ m using Tide Bait.
  • Dune Haven — $2,500,000, tied to rod enchanting; fishing there is unconfirmed.

The Pond (new water)Level 5 + $25,000The $25,000 price is confirmed by gameplay footage at the moment of travel; the Level 5 gate is reported by guides.

Dune Haven$2,500,000Presented next to rod enchanting in gameplay footage; whether it supports fishing is unconfirmed.

A complete, official water order for Deep Fishing is not currently documented. These four are the named destinations, and the sequence after The Pond is not established — recheck the order, gates, and costs after map or progression updates.

Unlocking The Pond

Roadmap

  1. 1

    Level up by fishing

Any catch counts toward the gate, including junk — a Worn Sneaker still counts toward progress. Level 5 is the gate reported to make The Pond available as a destination.

    • Sell everything you bring back; junk catches still level you
  2. 2

Save $25,000 for the destination purchase

Gameplay footage confirms the fee at the moment of travel: “25 grand to get to the pond.”

  3. 3

Sell and upgrade at the main pier first

The Pond visit in footage reports no shop on site — “the pond is only for AFKing” — so finish selling and upgrades before you travel.

Dune Haven: the $2.5 million enchantment destination

Dune Haven is the only other named paid destination. Gameplay footage prices the unlock at $2.5 million and immediately ties the island to rod enchanting — the player touring it calls it “the enchantment island” and passes on the purchase rather than paying that much “to just get the enchantment island.” Enchanted stones, which dropped for that player during long casts (“we might need that for the rod”), appear to be the material the island exists around. Whether Dune Haven is also a fishable water is left open: the player asks “Can I actually fish there?” and never gets an answer. Treat it as an enchantment destination until you can confirm fishing in-game.

Purchases that move the reach gate

Tips

Buy rods before stats

Take the Bronze Rod at $12,000, then the Full Bronze Rod at $50,000, and only then spread coins across Strength, Weight, Bounce, and Capacity. Rod names and prices have been reported differently between guides and gameplay footage, so check the Rod Shop’s current lineup and prices in-game before committing.

Time the Full Bronze Rod purchase

Once your bank passes roughly $61K, sell everything and buy it outright in the Rod Shop rather than skimming coins off for stats along the way.

Why rods come first for locations

A stat upgrade makes a weak rod slightly less weak, but a new rod changes which water you can reach at all — and farther water holds the rarer fish.

Strength is the water stat

Strength governs how far the lure travels, so it is the line that unlocks new water and, by extension, new fish.

Save Tide Bait for a tuned rod

Meadow Bait is the early option and pairs well with the Bronze Rod. Tide Bait is the one to save for a rod that is already tuned — it is what opens deep ocean water.

Cast-distance checkpoints by setup

Data table

Data table
SetupCast DistanceWhat Shows Up
Bronze Rod + Meadow Bait500+ mHigh-value fish, Mutation Scroll
Full Bronze Rod + stat upgrades695 mSteady mid-tier hauls
Full Bronze Rod, tuned750 mMythical Lucky Chest
Tide Bait1,014+ mDeep ocean water

Treat these as checkpoints to measure yourself against rather than guarantees. If your best throw is stuck well under the number for your current rod, the problem is hold-and-release timing rather than the upgrade sheet — for reference, a clean throw with the Full Bronze Rod and a round of stat upgrades behind it lands around 695 meters.

What changes in farther water

Farther water changes what a haul can contain. The rarity ladder runs Common → Legendary → Mythical → Secret, with mutations acting as a value modifier rather than a fourth rank. Distance is the access condition: Strength, not a luck pass, is what puts bait into the rings where Legendary, Mythical, and Secret actually live. Legendary is the first named rank most players actually see — after the First Legendary badge, Legendary fish become the mid-game coin engine that funds the next Strength buys. Mythical fish are the main reason to keep pushing Strength, and Secret fish should be treated like a session event, not another Common dumped into Auto Sell. All three named tiers carry their own badges. The timing marker for the shift: once you are consistently past a thousand meters with Tide Bait, the hunt changes shape. Once the new rings are open, the working rule is “luck in far water, one tier, for named ranks” — and otherwise keep casting into the farthest water you can honestly reach.

Late-water distance milestones (boosted endgame footage)

One endgame session captured on video shows what far water eventually holds — with the caveat that it ran during an admin luck event and used expensive one-time baits, so these distances and values are not baseline numbers:

  • Shortly before the Pond purchase, single throws reached about 1,100 m.
  • Around 2,800 m, the player identified the productive ring — “This is where all the good fish are” — pulling squids, manta rays, and sharks from that range.
  • With bounce boosts, casts pushed past 4,300 m and 5,700 m (“This is definitely our best one yet.”).
  • After buying the Galaxy Rod at $5,000 Robux — described as the most expensive rod in the game — the next cast reported 9,400 m.
  • With weights pushed to 950% and the priciest baits (galaxy bait at $3.4 million, Kronos bait at $10 million), throws reached roughly 17,000–21,000 m. That range produced two Secret fish in one haul (“Two secrets in a row.”) alongside a mythical squid, a blacktip shark, and an orca.

Because these progression values come from guide write-ups and gameplay footage rather than patch notes, recheck the water order, gates, and costs after map or progression updates.
