How to Get Secret Fish in Deep Fishing: Distance, Luck & Bait

How to get Secret fish in Deep Fishing: fund Strength to reach far water with 1,000 m+ Tide Bait casts, add luck second, and hunt with Auto Sell off.

Quick answer

Secret fish live in far, deep water, and the path there is distance first: fund Strength and rods until Tide Bait casts pass roughly 1,000 meters, add luck second, then hunt with Auto Sell off. These conditions tilt the odds — nothing puts a Secret on the line on any given cast.

  • Secret is the top of Deep Fishing's published rarity names, above Legendary and Mythical.
  • Only about 1.4% of players hold the First Secret badge — a first-catch badge separate from the catch-count trophies at 50, 250, and 1,000. That is a player-count stat, not a published catch rate.
  • Mutations are a separate modifier layered on whatever rank was already caught: a mutated Common is still not a Secret, and no mutation promotes a catch into Secret rarity.

Where Secret fish appear: far water and extreme cast distance

Secret fish are far-water fish — far water is where Legendary, Mythical, Secret, and mutated fish live. You will not reliably farm Secret fish by standing in the starter ring and buying a luck pass: distance first, luck second. The gate is framed as distance and location — once your casts are consistently past a thousand meters with Tide Bait, the hunt changes shape, because Tide Bait is the bait that opens deep ocean water. The recorded session that produced the Secret catches shown below operated at the extreme end of that scale, pushing casts to roughly 17,000–21,000 meters after the 5,000-Robux Galaxy Rod purchase.

These are the two Secret catches identifiable by name in recorded play so far, not a complete in-game Secret index. The coin figures are what that recorded session paid at the time — treat them as reported, not confirmed permanent prices — and recheck names and values after updates. That session also ran under elevated conditions (top-tier baits, the 5,000-Robux Galaxy Rod, weather events, and reported server-luck boosts), so no single condition can be credited with producing the Secret.

Progression required before a Secret hunt

Redeem steps

  • Buy rods before stats

Take the Bronze Rod at $12,000, then the Full Bronze Rod at $50,000, and only then spread coins across Strength, Weight, Bounce, and Capacity. A new rod changes which water you can reach, and farther water holds the rarer fish.

  • Keep funding Strength after every rod

Strength governs how far the lure travels, so it is the line that unlocks new water and, by extension, new fish. When hunting First Mythical or First Secret: raise Strength, then consider luck, then keep selling Commons so the Strength bar does not stall.

  • Unlock new water as it gates

The Pond becomes available at Level 5 for $25,000, and the recorded run later reaches Dune Haven, reported to unlock for 2.5 million coins.

  • Push into deep ocean water

Tide Bait casts past roughly 1,014 meters, and the Secret-producing session kept extending throws to roughly 17,000–21,000 meters.

  • Expect the long grind

Secret hunting is a late-loop activity, not a first-hour activity — each session that ends farther out than the last is what eventually puts a Secret on the line.

One naming caution: written guides list the Bronze Rod at $12,000 and the Full Bronze Rod at $50,000, while the recorded run calls a 50,000-coin rod simply “the bronze rod.” The two tiers are easy to conflate, so check the in-game shop listing before buying.

Luck gamepasses: distance first, luck second

Luck is the second condition, never the first. The luck gamepasses — Lucky, Super Lucky, and Ultra Lucky — raise the chance of headline ranks, including Secret, but only once the bait is already in water your Strength reaches; luck does not turn near water into Secret water. Robux prices live as of September 2026: Lucky 99, Super Lucky 249, and Ultra Lucky 599, with Ultra Lucky listed on the game's Roblox gamepass catalog as “The best luck boost!” For a spender who has already funded distance, the spend order runs Ultra Lucky over Super Lucky over Lucky.

Bait and potions that raise rare-catch odds

Checklist

  • Run bait on every cast

Bait increases the chance of hooking rare, high-value ocean creatures and speeds up the bite rate.

  • Save Tide Bait for deep water

Tide Bait is the deep-water bait — save it for a rod that is already tuned, because it is what opens deep ocean water. Free Tide Bait appears repeatedly as a working code reward in the September 2026 lists.

  • Bring high-tier bait for dedicated hunts

Reported in gameplay: Voltage Bait at “450% extra luck” but one-time use, Prism Bait bought for 950,000 coins, Galaxy Bait at 3.4 million coins for five casts, and Kronos Bait at 10 million coins.

  • Top up luck with Luck Potions

September 2026 code lists pair Luck Potions with Tide Bait on several of the working codes.

Two things about this month's codes are currently inconsistent, so verify in the Shop's code section before planning a hunt around free bait or potions: September 2026 code lists disagree with the game's wiki — the lists show active codes that month while the wiki states none were confirmed — and the newest code's reward appears as either $5,000 plus a Luck Potion or 3 Tide Baits plus a Luck Potion depending on the list, with the Luck Potion the only consistent part.

Session rules for a Secret hunt

Tips

Turn Auto Sell off

Switch it off during a First Secret hunt even if you already own the pass — the automation can clear a headline catch before you confirm it. Leaving Auto Sell on during a Secret hunt is flagged outright as a badge problem.

Read the haul

If the silhouette or the label looks wrong in a good way, pause Auto Sell and confirm the rank before the inventory clears.

Luck after distance, not instead of it

Treat luck as a helper after distance, not a skip, and keep selling Commons so the Strength bar does not stall.

Compressed hunt order

Strength still gets leftover coins, then the highest luck tier you want, Auto Sell off, and Fish Magnet on if pickups drop.
